Hello! My name is Greg Toftdahl a fourth generation Oregonian, raised in Junction City, Oregon, a Willamette Valley community rich in Danish history. My great-grandfather, a Danish immigrant, settled in Junction City in the early 1900’s. This Danish heritage stirred my interest in family history research.
While attending the University of Oregon I stumbled upon their vast microfilmed newspaper collection. I began researching the obituaries for my family and discovered many clues to further my research.
After I exhausted my family names I thought what a great resource the university had and began to offer my services to others who were researching their Oregon families.
I graduated from the University of Oregon’s School of Business, and since the mid 1980’s I have researched for clients on a part-time basis.
What you will find in my blog:
- Examples of how newspaper obituaries can further your family history research.
- Research helps – clues on sources that can lead you to the next piece of the puzzle on your quest to find family members.
-
Eugene Morning Register index logs – now I am indexing the Morning Register for death notices, obituaries and related articles. The Oregon Death Index is missing many of the early deaths. My indexes will help fill in those gaps.
- Personal interest stories. Small articles that will give you a feeling of what it was like living in the Southern Willamette Valley in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
