“WHEELS. – A meeting will be called soon for the purpose of affecting a permanent organization of a bicycle club in Eugene (OR). So far the Wheelmen have been unsuccessful in their efforts at organization owing to lack of numbers but with the number of cyclist in Eugene at present and with the large number of new riders promised for the coming season, there is no reason why a club with a good membership cannot be organized.”
Daily Eugene Guard (OR), Feb. 7, 1895, pg. 4, col. 3.
Today bike paths run throughout Eugene and follow the Willamette River on the north and south banks – both of which are heavily used by cyclist, walkers and runners year around. Eugene consistently ranks high in bike friendly cities in the United States. GT
