“Died – At Richland, Oregon, February 22, 1903 of inflammation of the bowels. William Kirk, son of J.T. Kirk of this city. Funeral services were conducted by the Masons and Odd Fellows. William Kirk was born in Kirksville, Missouri, March 4, 1846 and crossed the plains with his parents in 1865 and settled in Lane County. In 1879 he moved to Heppner but soon returned to Lane County and shortly after was married to Amelia Young who died about one year later. He again returned to Heppner and in 1879 was married to Miss Elizabeth Ayers. To this union there were five children, all of whom survive. At one time he was engaged in the harness and saddlery business in this city and many of the old settlers will remember him.”
