“Celebrated Golden Wedding.
The following appeared in the Sunday’s Oregonian accompanied by pictures of Mr. & Mr.s Zeigler.
EUGENE, Sept 23. — Mr and Mrs. Richard Zeigler, of this city, today celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. All but two of their children, six grandchildren and a number of friends participated in the festivities of the occasion. Mr. Zeigler was born in Pennsylvania, September 12, 1826. In 1847 he removed to Fountain County, Indiana, where he was married, September 23, 1849, to Miss Deborah Osborn. Mr and Mrs Zeigler are the parents of four sons and two daughters. One daughter is at home, the other Mrs. I G Knotts, resides at Florence, one son is in Indiana, and the other three are business men in Eugene. Mr and Mrs Zeigler located in Eugene in 1892, and have made many friends during their residence here.” Oregon State Journal (Eugene OR), September 30, 1899, pg. 5, col. 4.
The Eugene Pioneer Cemetery (IOOF) lists the Zeiglers in block 342, plots 4 & 5 Debora Ann Osborn Zeigler born 10/1/1830 in Indiana and died May 15, 1918 in Hoquiam, Washington. Richard Zeigler born Sep 26, 1826 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and died Feb. 22, 1904 in Eugene, Oregon.
