Dr. J.P. Gill dies in Eugene Oregon April 2, 1898


GILL — At his home in Eugene, Saturday morning.  April 2, 1898, from bladder trouble, Dr. J.P. Gill, aged 81 years, 3 months and 13 days.  Deceased was born in London, England, Dec. 19, 1816, and at the age of 17  came to the United States and in 1840 (?) was married to Miss Julie Tabbot at Louisville, Ky.  One son Thomas Gill, who now lives in Colorado, and a daughter now deceased, were the outcome of this marriage.  After the death of his first wife he was married to Miss Margaret A. Whitney in 1852 at Franklin, Indiana.  He leaves a child by his second wife, Geo.W. Gill, of Salem.  Deceased practiced medicine in this city for a number of years.  He was a Mason, belonged to the G.A.R. and the Christian church, and was a highly respected and honored citizen. The funeral was held Sunday at the Christian church, Rev. M.L (?). Rose conducted the services.  Interment took place in the Masonic Cemetery.”
