Adoptions were often reported in the Newspapers

Adopt two-year old boy – Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Fischer took out papers yesterday adopting two-year old Ralph Langacher.  His name has been changed to Glen Voltair Fischer. Eugene Morning Register Jan 22, 1910, pg, 5.

While this type of report would not be seen in today’s newspapers – it was not uncommon for this time period.  By legislative mandate the County Courts were to report to the State all the name changes and adoptions that were granted under their jurisdiction.  These were recorded on the State level.

Multnomah County reported on Jan 21, 1910 Henry and Amelia Fischer adopted Ralph Lengacher and his new name would be Glenn Voltair Fischer.
