Mary P. Haines – Oregon Pioneer, passes

“Mrs. Mary P. Haines, wife of W.W. Haines, was born Kosciusko county, Indiana, November 28, 1839.  She crossed the plains in 1852 with her parents and two brothers, one of whom survives her.  She was married to William W. Haines January 19, 1895 at Brownsville, Oregon, and they settled at the time in Scottsburg, Oregon.  They moved from there to Eugene in June 1874 , at which place they have lived constantly.  Mrs. Haines was the mother of ten children, seven of whom are still living.  They are: Mrs. Grant Thompson, Burns, Oregon; J.A. Haines, Everett, Washington, Mrs. Herbert Martin, Bellingham,Washington; C.W. Haines, Everett, Washington; Mrs. William Stevens, Eugene; Mrs. George Bordeaux, Medford, Oregon; Mrs. Herman Rein, Coburg, Oregon.  She had lived a lifelong Christian life,  uniting with the church at an early age, and at the time of her death was a members of the Central Presbyterian church.  Funeral service were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the family residence, 351 East Ninth street.”  Eugene Morning Register Jan 27, 1910, pg. 8.

Eugene Pioneer (IOOF) Cemetery records lists the following Haines family members in block 260.  William W. Haines born 8/8/1828 New Jersey, died 6/21/1922 Seattle, Washington.  Mary P. Haines born 11/28/1839 Kentucky, died 1/22/1910 – unknown place – but from this obituary we know that she died in Eugene, OR.  Anna M. Haines born 5/28/1867 in Oregon, died 12/15/1886 – place unknown.  John A. Haines born 1866 in Illinois and died 1952, also place unknown – as per cemetery records.  There are other Haines buried at the Pioneer Cemetery – see the cemetery website for more information.
